History of Tengo Media
Tengo Media was established back in 2005 by then 22 year old Managing Director, Tom Strapps. Tom always had an avid interest in computers and business, and after studying Business and IT at Manchester University, he held a couple of managerial posts in large companies to gain valuable business experience, before taking the plunge to set up his own business in September 2005.
The concept behind Tengo Media was a simple one – to cater for every computing need, for both businesses and consumers. Covering general PC servicing and upgrades, Network installation and maintenance, Website design and hosting, PC and accessory sales, cabling and phone systems, bespoke software development and search engine optimization, Tengo had all bases covered in its offering of IT services.
Businesses in particular soon realised the benefit of a single contract with one company who could cover and maintain all of their PC’s and hardware, software, website and IT consultancy needs, as they often had separate contracts with individual companies for each of those areas.
Tengo Media now employ a diverse team, each with their own knowledge in specialist areas – but this wasn’t always the case. Tom started the business from a converted room in his house in a small village in North Wales. This location was fine for the first year, marketing using the internet and word of mouth Tom built up a steady client base, and took on 3 staff before moving to larger business premises in the town of Ruthin, in Denbighshire, where the head office of the company is now located.
Integral to the company’s success and growth has been its charging model and high standards of customer service. All of the companies’ services are charged under the same model – a simple flat hourly rate. Tengo’s contracts are not contracts in the literal sense – there are no signed agreements or tie-ins, customers pre-pay for a quarters worth of service at a fixed rate. The customer is free to look elsewhere at any time – which helps to keep Tengo’s staff on their toes, knowing that the excellent level of service must be maintained if they are to retain their customers.
The business effectively services clients nationwide in most areas, but to provide true and total support across the country, Tengo Media have realised the need to branch out with more outlets, and have begun the process of franchising the business. Look out for a store opening near you soon!
